Intro to Movement Activities of Children and Youth (KNES 281)

Introduction to the theory and practice of instruction in physical activity setting, instructional techniques are applied to a variety of activities and environments in order to enhance the development of instructional skills that can promote skill learning. This course broadened my views on how to use creativity in the classroom, as well as how to make a type of lesson plan. 

 

Growth and Development (KNES 290)

Study of the sequential changes in physical growth and motor development with emphasis on individual differences. I was able to learn multiple ways in which a child can develop physically and it brought me to a higher realization in the differences within children. 

 

Introduction to Coaching (KNES 260)

Coaching theory, incorporating components of the National Coaching Certification Program. This class showed me how to control a classroom with your prescence and also taught me a step into lesson planning in the form of practice planning. 

 

Intro to the Admin of Sport and PE Programs (KNES 250)

Course provides you with the basic skills required to successfully administer a sport and/or Physical Education Program. Within this course I learned the different levels of hierarchy within a school and how they connect and work together. 

 

Leadership Communication and Instruction (KNES 211)

This course provides study and application of theories, concepts, skills, and practice of effective communication, leadership, and instruction in fitness leadership, sport leadership, physical activity settings, and other related professional areas. This course helped me become a more successful leader by breaking down the many characteristics of a leader and how one can take steps to becoming one. 

 

Professional Dimensions of Teaching I

Through an examination of the teaching-learning process with reference to psycho-social, philosophical, and political influences in contemporary society, students will explore the concept of personal worldview, its impact on teaching and learning and begin to construct an understanding of their own professional identity.  This class set the foundation for my teaching instruction as it taught me how students have multiple intelligence's, how I can create my own teaching philosophy, and who I want to be as a teacher.

Professional Dimensions of Teaching II

In this course, students explore the evolution of schooling through historical and personal perspectives as well as possible future development and their impact on education. We explored classroom  and school structure, the purpose and function of curriculum and began to shape our own philosophical statement about learning and teaching.

Educational Psychology for Teaching

This course focused on the psychological, social and education determinants of child development. Through theory, research, and illustrations that dealt with the classroom application of psychological principles we learned to use personal experiences to further our learning.

Tools for Teaching and Learning in the Digital Classroom

In this course, we came away with many valuable resources to use in our future classrooms. We learned strategies and skills to effectively use digital technologies and to integrate technology into the current curriculum.

Language Development and Literacy in Schools

This course focuses on the development of language and the importance of literacy for individuals as well as within the classroom setting. We examined learning principles in order to gain a better understanding of how language development occurs as well as to determine best practice in teaching language and literacy in elementary school classrooms.

Program of Studies and Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Language Art

This course explored the knowledge and skills required to implement programs of studies in teaching English Language Arts in elementary schools. Some of the requirements involved creating a year plan, analyzing lesson plans and teaching ESL students.

Program of Studies and Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Science

This course explored the knowledge and skills required to implement programs of studies in teaching Science in elementary schools. Some of the requirements for this course involved creating an integrated science/math  unit plan, presenting at PRAXIS Family Science Day and creating lesson plans.

Program of Studies and Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Mathematics

This course explored the knowledge and skills required to implement programs of studies in teaching Mathematics in elementary schools. Some of the requirements for this course involved exploring the variety of manipulatives used for teaching mathematics, creating an integrated science/math unit plan and building a math rich task to teach to a elementary class.

The Impact of Social Issues in Education and Schooling

This course examines factors such as the economy, the state, social class, gender, ethnicity, sub-cultural membership, ideology, religion, and the home environment, and their relationship and
 impact on learning in general and schooling in particular. Within this course we completed an Intercultural Development Inventory, researched and presented on a current social issue, and taught lessons as a passion day at a local elementary school.
